GARDEN DIARY

We had a very hard November and December with 8 weeks of  snow.  And it’s been cold. Very cold. Many plants look like they’ve been killed off, but we’ll see what spring brings. The privet has taken a real battering.

The main new project for 2011 is adding to the potato patch… and here it is.

because you can never have too many potatoes. We ran out in December for goodness sakes.

This year I’m going to be more organised (yeah) than ever.  Got my seeds (mostly) and plan worked out.

OUTSIDE VEGGIES:

Leeks, potatoes, parsnips, carrots, squash, cabbages, cauliflower, sugar snap peas and possibly some onions

POLYTUNNEL VEGGIES:

Kale, spinach, broccoli, cabbage, squash, beetroot, cauliflower, carrots, courgettes and salad crops.  Will I try the odd tomato or bean? Hmm… we’ll see how spring goes.

FLOWERS:  Borage, nasturtium, sweet peas, marigolds (companion planting!) and edible flowers the order of the day.

So why do I have the feeling I’ve missed something vital? That there will be some vegetable I completely forgot (like the parsnips last year?)
